Going from India to Europe via USA

I was trying to find a flight from Bangalore, India to Limerick, Ireland.

Air France thinks one way to go would be to travel from India to Europe (Paris), then go to New York and then fly to Shannon (nearest airport to Limerick).

The Epicurean in Me

One of the most recent comment that I received was 3 out of my last 4 posts talked about food, this would not have come as a surprise to anyone who knew my home town.

It is said that French eat by nose and Japanese eat with eyes, we 'x'ians on the other hand are real epicureans, before food reaches our mouth it should look be presented in an elegant manner and it should have appealing smell. Only then our taste buds are activated.

We are born with a penchant for "good" and exotic food, only a 'x'ian can precisely tell all the spices in a masala tea. He needs his tea with proper proportions of water, milk and masala, a tinge of cardamom and that exact tea color.

Even living in the country where food is eaten by brains could not alter this innate love for great food. Everytime a beautiful babe passed by me, her round eyes with red cheeks reminded me of the kachoris and pattis of sarafa made meticulously to have the perfect texture not too dark as burnt, not too dim to be uncooked.

The morning corn-flakes reminded me of the tasty fariyali chiwada; Every time I passed by a McDonald, i missed the thelawala around every corner carrying nice poha, jalebi and sabudana khicdi. Those raved lunch buffets were nothing as compared to the the buffet at Crown Palace (which gave a student discount too).

Only we stay awake past 12am only to go out and have some poha and jalebi at Rajwada we stand in queue to get Nagaori's Shikanji which is finished in first few hours its made, we know seasons more by what is available in that season rather than the name itself, like november whould be mentioned to be month for arrival of carrots to perpare halwa.

We have exotic food items likes "Bhutte ka kis" and "Garadu". Madhuran and Gangor sweets have mastered the art of sweets and offer the variety which is not available anywhere in world. Only those who have eaten Indori "Ratlami Sev" know what a delicacy it is .

For those who haven't guessed yet, I am talking about my dear home town INDORE - One word that describes my proclivity for finding and appreciating great food.

And the love affair with food continues ..........

Victory for Vegetarians

One great thing about being in India is I don't have to worry that the soup I am eating might contain chicken broth or the cheese I purchased contains animal fat.

All food products with are vegetarian are clearly marked with a green dot and non vegetarian products with a red dot. I thought it was only limited to items purchased in store but look at the menu below from a pizza shop.

It has all the pizzas marked as vegetarian or non vegetarian, note that the chocolate brownie dessert has egg in it and thus it is non vegetarian too (click on the picture for a larger size)

Oh what a relief.
